dreams
to
puke
into a
toilet unfit
to even defecate
in;
come back out
kicking through the emptiness
of a floor full of empty 30-pack ice
beer boxes and torn bags of
hard, dry, half-eaten
mc donald's 99-cent burgers
to
find my adoring daughter chirping,
cheerfully:
"i wanna be like you!
i wanna walk like you!
i wanna talk like you!"
smile at her
shake my head
and try not to
cry ...
